A resource for journalists and Media Practitioners

In South Africa 81% of our news sources are male. Of the remaining 19% of the media where women make up the news sources, only a fifth are black, despite black women constituting 45% of the country's population. The only areas of news in which women predominate are the topics of homemaker, beauty contestants and sex workers.

SAMGI has sought to strengthen the voices of women and assist the media in this task by identifying a range of women in various disciplines who can be approached as commentators and analysts and as sources of news.

This resource is available to all journalists and can be obtained from our offices.
