Launch of Media Monitoring Report, 5 March 2004
On 5 March 2004, SAMGI launched the Media Monitoring Report on the '16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children 2003'. The report focused on how gender-based violence was covered during this period. In her foreword to the report, Professor Lizette Rabe states that the "report highlighted especially one fact: if it is a women's issue, it is a non-issue. And non-issues constitute non-news". Human Rights Day, 21 March 2004
SAMGI launched its Human Rights project and character Mambo - Women's Rights are Human Rights on National Human Rights Day - 21st March 2004 at Ikwezi Centre Guguletu. On the programme for this memorable day were speakers like Joe Mthinka and Helene Combrinck. The youth, children and adults attending the event were able to view the video 'Chavez - Inside the Coup' and were able to participate in the discussion that took place. After the hard work came a time for dancing and joy as our two local bands Supa Dam and Spindle Sekt entertained the crowds. Full Story...

Youth Day, 16 June 2004
As part of SAMGI's Youth Day celebrations we lined up a menu of edutainment that included speeches from Judith Smith-Vialva, director of SAMGI and Joe Mtimkha of TOMECY, a township youth project. A dance troupe from Angola thrilled the crowds with a rich cultural dance called the 'capoeira'. Read more...
